Creative Movement often gets a reputation for being a woo woo practice for children...but this couldn't be further from the truth! In fact, Creative Movement is really just a child-friendly name for Choreography and Composition!  These classes are more cognitively engaging than the traditional watch-and-replicate model that research shows is a major cause for burnout! In short, Creative Movement uses play-based teaching practices to not only teach you HOW to dance, but also to THINK about movement and dance through creative choice-making. 

 

In our Creative Movement program, we:

• Focus on creativity, imagination, and JOY through dance!

• Incorporate steps from a variety of dance styles

• Provide a non-performing, stress-free environment for exploration!

 

Our Creative Movement curriculum is derived from Anne Green Gilbert's Creative Dance For All Ages. Each session focuses on a different Element of Dance. This means that each session will give you a different experience within the expansive world of Creative Movement! The Elements of Dance are:

• Space

• Time

• Force

• Body

• Movement

• Form

Comfortable clothes for easy movement—no leotards or dance shoes needed!

Please note that the Creative Movement program is a NON-PERFORMING, limited term (8 weeks) program. If you are wanting a more traditional, year-round program that includes performance opportunities, check out the Ambo Dance Theatre School program!
